Montana Millionaire Event Changes for 2024
The Montana Lottery has announced significant changes to the annual Montana Millionaire event. This year, an additional million-dollar grand prize has been added, bringing the total to four $1M prizes. Last year, the event saw an increase to three $1M prizes, and the popularity of the event has only grown since then.
Ticket Sales and Pricing
The number of tickets sold will increase to 500,000, up from 380,000 in 2023. Despite the increase in the number of tickets, the ticket price remains at $20. This change aims to accommodate the growing interest in the event and provide more opportunities for participants to win.
New Drawing and Instant Win Prizes
This year, the Montana Lottery has introduced the “Quarter Million Monday” drawing for $250,000 on December 2, replacing the former “Early Bird” drawings. Additionally, there will be an increase in instant win prizes, with an additional 200 $500 instant wins and 2,500 $100 instant wins. These changes are designed to enhance the excitement and provide more chances for participants to win.
Popularity and Sales
The Montana Millionaire event has gained immense popularity, with all tickets selling out in just five hours in 2023. The event’s success can be attributed to the attractive prizes and the excitement it generates among participants. The increased number of tickets and prizes for 2024 is expected to further boost the event’s popularity.

The event is designed to build on last year’s success responsibly by incorporating feedback from players and sales agents along with the extensive knowledge of the Lottery’s staff. Sales Timeline
Tickets for the Montana Millionaire event will go on sale on November 1, 2024. The grand prize drawing is usually held during the last week of the year, between Christmas and New Year’s Eve. This timeline allows participants ample time to purchase tickets and anticipate the exciting draw.
Previous Winners Locations
In previous years, winners have come from various locations across Montana. Notable winners include three from Butte, two from Great Falls, four from Billings, two from Columbia Falls, and one each from Winnett, East Helena, and Laurel. These diverse locations highlight the widespread participation and excitement generated by the event.
Legislation Change Regarding Winner Names
Due to a change in legislation, the names of Montana Millionaire winners are no longer released unless consent is given. This change aims to protect the privacy of winners and ensure their safety. Participants can now enjoy their winnings without the concern of unwanted attention.
Lottery Revenue Usage
The revenue generated from the Montana Millionaire event is primarily used for paying prizes and operations. The remaining funds go back to the state as determined by legislative action. Currently, the first $2.25 million goes to the Montana STEM/Healthcare Scholarship Program operated by the Office Of The Commissioner Of Higher Education and the Montana University System. The remaining funds go to the state’s general fund as dictated by the legislature.
Unclaimed Prizes Information
In 2022, one of the two Montana Millionaire prizes went unclaimed, resulting in the money being transferred to the State General Fund. This serves as a reminder for participants to always check their tickets and claim their prizes promptly.
